Quote of the Day: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

While Google Books says that about 1,460 books attribute this quote to John Quincy Adams, I believe that those 1,460 books are wrong. I say this because not a single one of those books were from the 19th century (and actually not any were even from the 20th century)

In fact, I believe the quote came from Nelson Mandela, as an article from the Mayo News in 2006 says the following:

Mary Davis has an autographed picture of herself and Nelson Mandela that bears the following tribute from the genial South African ex-President: ‘if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader’.

While this article could be wrong, I think the evidence is far stronger that it was Nelson Mandella’s quote than the non-existent evidence of it being from John Quincy Adams. Although, there is also strong compelling evidence that the essence of the quote came from Dolly Parton.  And I am now working on investigating this further.
