Quote of the Day: “One needs to be slow to form convictions, but once formed they must be defended against the heaviest odds.”

One needs to be slow to form convictions, but once formed they must be defended against the heaviest odds.

This quote by Mahatma Gandhi, as found in his Collected Works, is one that I echo as a personal philosophy.  I am a big believer in continuing to gather evidence from the world around us to form our beliefs, and when there is sufficient evidence for us to consider something a “truth”, we must defend that truth.  Although, one could say that this maxim, as stated by Gandhi, in and of itself is a conviction, so I would encourage readers to carefully think about it, before adopting it and defending it!
