Quote of the Day: “God bless all of you; all of you on the good earth.”

without comments

God bless all of you; all of you on the good earth.

Today is the 45th anniversary of the Christmas Eve broadcast from the Apollo 8 spacecraft, which contained the first humans to ever orbit Earth’s moon.

While yesterday I shared the words of a deeply wise humanist astronomer, who was often critical of traditional religion; today, I thought it was fitting to share the words of astronauts who had slightly more traditional Christian beliefs.

It should be noted that the passage they chose of Genesis looks at the universe as being created good, not in sin.  Further, I chose to share their words at the end of their reading, which doesn’t just bless the United States, but a blessing for all on this planet, whether Christian, Muslim, Jew, Atheist, etc.  Whether from the United States, Russia, China, etc., the blessing is to all.

May we respect our differences this season, but not find them dangerous.  May we celebrate our unity as a humanity in being blessed to have the opportunity of existence.
